Week 9: Progress in Software Engineering.

  1. What did you do this past week?

This past week, I worked on scraping data from the external APIs, connecting AWS RDS to PgAdmin, and aesthetics for the aboout page. Data scraping was definatly the most difficult and time consuming part of Phase II. We spent a long time scraping the data and then cleaning it as our external APIs were not user friendly. However, once we got the ball rolling we were able to quickly catch up and are get back on track to complete the requirements.

2. What’s in your way?

Currently, I have some lingering tasks that I need to finish like updating the Postman API documentation (as we changed one of our models) and adding more aesthetics to the website. Other than that I’ve got exams and projects due for AI and Algo next week that I need to start worrying about.

3. What will you do next week?

Next, week I plan on starting on Phase III early so that I can have more time to focus on some of my other classes. I’ve got an exam and an project due on the same day next week, so starting early would help me prepare better.

4. If you read it, what did you think of the Interface Segregation Principle?

I thought the Interface Segregation Pricinciple was pretty interesting as it defined some key distinctions between concrete and abstract classes. I found it interesting to learn that abstract classes should only depend on concrete classes and vice-versa. I enjoyed reading the different examples about the principle and hope it will be useful in some of my future projects.

5. What was your experience of comprehensions, yield, closures, and decorators?

I thought comprehensions, yield, closures, and decorators were great topics to grasp especially when working with others who are more profound in Python. I think that having the knowelge of these topics helped me recognize them after seeing code that was written by some of my teammates. It took me a bit to totatly grasp closures and decorators but after some examples and practice, I feel much better about the topics.

6. What made you happy this week?

Getting my AI test over with made me happy this week. I had been preparing for it for a while and I felt good taking it with all the studying time I had put in.

7. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip of tip-of-the-week is to watch The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney Plus. I think it’s a great show so far and I would totally recommend it if you are taking a break from school work.
